Cecil Street townhouses
This project is an insertion of a seemingly symmetrical pair of very compact townhouses that punctuate the suburban Victorian landscape with a new palette of contemporary materials. Project: neil & idle architects

Green Street townhouses
The project is 3 unique townhouses, united from the street in a single, sculptural form. The corner condition of the site and the complexity and ambiguity of the surrounding urban context provided the design impetus. The suppression of individual dwelling identity was a major focus, and the building presents a semi-commercial or industrial feel to the street face, inviting references to the automobile in its streamlined form. Internally, each of the townhouses delivers a distinctly individual interior space focusing on the framing of views to continually reveal and obscure, project and divide. Melrose Street townhouses
The development consists of 27 townhouses in North Melbourne. The design intent was to create a double layer of readability, with each dwelling imbued with a unique identity, yet also manifesting as part of a larger expression. The simple palette of materials has been applied to each dwelling in a slightly different and playful manner, and forms a cohesive thread across the street façade of the development. A new internal street within the development heightens the opportunity for interplay between the units and the public domain. Project: neil & idle architects

Napier Kerr townhouses
The project of four townhouses is located in inner city Fitzroy at an urban interface of residential and industrial. The building addresses this urban nexus in a dynamic and sculptural fashion, presenting two distinct street facades with contrasting formal qualities and materials palettes. Porter Street townhouses
(under construction)

Located in Prahran abutting the train line, this 5 storey building consists of 52 apartments and studio offices of varying sizes. The hard urban edge to the site and graffitied industrial walls along the railway line provided design stimulus, with the façade envisaged as a three dimensional graphic object alluding to the context. Lines are clean and sharp, and dynamic coloured elements fold and bend across the face of the building, giving an energy and depth to the surface. Project: neil & idle architects

Rooney Rose townhouses
This development consists of 5 one-bedroom townhouses located in inner-city Richmond. An undulating steel element folds across the façade, giving a formal coherence to the building. Surrounded by low level Victorian dwellings, the design experiments with the use of traditional materials in innovative and unexpected ways. Project: neil & idle architects
